The Miami Beach Botanical Garden, in partnership with ECOMB, will host ECOMB’s January Cinema Green film with the screening of Taking Root, an 80-minute film by Lisa Merton and Alan Dater that tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights and defend democracy.
Q & A
John Oldenburg, City of Miami Beach Assistant Director of Parks and Miami-Dade County Community Image Advisory Board Chairman of the Tree Subcommittee, will introduce the film and speak about the Million Trees Miami Initiative.
Tickets are $10 at the door, $7 for members of sponsoring organizations: ECOMB (Environmental Coalition of Miami and Beaches), GTAG (Greenspace/Tree Advisory Group), and the Green Book Club.
