The Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach (ECOMB) wants to make the beachfront prettier and less dirty by placing 204 TRASH CANS the top 7 inches of which will be decorated by local artists—all the way from Government Cut to 23rd Street. That’s a lot of trash cans!!!

So far, The Ritz-Carlton, The Boucher Brothers and The Ocean Drive Association are founding sponsors.  The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce is partnering with ECOMB to seek additional sponsorships.

Money raised from sponsorships will underwrite clean-up and educational projects through ECOMB, City of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County.  The project’s funds will also contribute to public maintenance by supporting additional sand dune enhancements, sand-sifting and litter-picker teams.

The campaign intends to “out-pace the rate of litter on Miami Beach from Government Cut through 23rd street.” The designs are pretty cool but I wonder if they will truly inspire people slobs to dump their trash inside the receptacle. Personally, I would love to walk up to people and admonish them as they leave their sh*t on the beach, but I suppose the tourism council would probably oppose such guerrilla tactics.

Seriously though, ECOMB actually does a lot of wonderful work on the beach and if you’d like to personally take action for an environmentally-friendly city, I encourage you to check out the good folks at ECOMB.
