Thursday, June 24, 201: Press Conference to announce Saturday’s (June 26, 2010) “Hands Across the Sand” demonstration, a world-wide effort with massive local support to show opposition against offshore drilling and in favor of clean energy in the wake of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The June 26th event will dwarf the 10,000 strong State of Florida February event. |

Organized by a Coalition of environmental groups from South Florida, consisting of Surfrider Foundation, ECOMB, Greenpeace, Sierra Club, Urban Paradise Guild, Environment Florida and 1Sky, all of which have local chapters in Miami-Dade County, the press conference will include remarks from the Coalition leaders as well as from local government and tourism officials and scientists, including the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau President/CEO Bill Talbert, Greater Miami & the Beaches Hotel Association President/CEO Wendy Kallergys, Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Gongora, Miami Beach Commissioner & Sustainability Committee Chairman Jonah Wolfson, Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce Chairman Aaron Tandy, Surfrider Foundation Chairman Mike Gibaldi, amongst others. |

Hands Across The Sand’s <www.handsacrossthesandmiami.com> mission is to steer America’s energy policy away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy. The goal is to convince our leaders to abandon expanded offshore oil drilling and adopt policies that encourage clean and renewable energy sources. |
