When was the last time you stepped on a hypodermic while prancing in the sand? Not lately? Well, you just may have the folks at ECOMB to thank for that. As an event to benefit ECOMB (the Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach), Sun & Fun By the Sea ’05 promises to be a great outing for people of all ages and cultures (unless of course it rains).
From noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 11 on the sand by Lummus Park, between Eighth and Ninth streets, on South Beach, there will be food and drinks, plus the inaugural U.S. Footvolley National Championships (a Brazilian sport combining soccer and beach volleyball – as if those sports aren’t already tough enough on their own) and other entertainment. General admission is free but tickets are $30 for the Taste by the Sea” food and beverage tent.
The day before (9 a.m. to noon) and the day after (noon to 3 p.m.) Sun & Fun are set aside for cleaning up the beach and dune areas between Sixth and 10th streets. Plenty of opportunities for you to pick up after yourself and your neighbors. Call 800-670-NICE or visit www.ecomb.org.
